You can, however, convert a basic task into a Jira issue and thereby make them visible in your Jira project as well. Right-click on a basic task to convert it to a Jira issue. You follow the same method when you want to convert a Jira issue into a milestone. Basic tasks have many use cases.
Click on the 3 dots at the top right of your issue, then either select Convert to Subtask or Convert to Issue, depending on what issue you are currently viewing. You will need to then select the issue type for this conversion on the next page. When converting to a subtask, you will need to select the parent issue for which you would like this
Using Sprints. Jira is used for issue tracking, and is a crucial tool for keeping large software development teams organized. In this guide, we'll break down it's tried-and-tested schema, including the different tiers of issue types and the organization tools offered to you. At the time of writing, Jira is currently revamping their entire user
one to close all sub-tasks when you mark a parent as done; one (like the rule you have in your screenshot) to close the parent when all sub-tasks are done. For the second rule, you are almost there, but you have a strange combination of conditions in your rule at first sight. You should eliminate the second condition in your For Parent branch
Best practice #4: use Outlook alerts to your advantage. The last tip is for situations like when you immediately want to be alerted for certain Jira Software events. When using Outlook rules, you can use the action Display a Message in the alert window. This will show a dialog in Outlook, which you’ll need to confirm.
May 08, 2020 It's not a "small tweak" in the back end. The issue type is structural, a lot of configuration is hung off it - it determines the workflow and fields for each issue (with the project covering the rest of the config), so Jira has to check that any change of issue type is not going to mangle the data. 2 Answers. Sorted by: 52. You can do this through the More Actions dropdown: On the Story Page, select the "More Actions" dropdown. then choose the "Move" option. On the following dialog you'll be able to change the issue type to an epic. Share.
Community Leader. May 15, 2017. This is a bit of a bug-bear in JIRA Service Desk. The problem is that you absolutely do *not* want to move an issue from a Service Desk into a Software project. If you do that, it looks to the customer like you have deleted their JSD request, which is, at best, confusing, and at worst, looks rude and ignorant!
A subtask can only live in the same project as its parent - epics can have children (stories/bugs/tasks) that live in other projects, but a subtask cannot be in a different project than its parent story/bug. A subtask inherits the sprint value from its parent ticket (if it's been set). If you use issue security levels in your system, a subtask
You can bulk move both standard issues and sub-tasks to another project and issue type, as well as convert a sub-task to an issue and vice versa. To learn more about issue types, see Issue fields and statuses. You can also select both a sub-task and its parent to bulk move.
Typically, you'll find things like Issue, Story, Feature, Bug etc are "Issues" and Sub-task, Technical-task, Work-fragment etc are "sub tasks". There's even JQL functions you can use like "issuetype in subTaskIssueTypes ()". The difference between the two layers of issue type is the parent-child relationship. An issue-layer issue has no parent
Hi @Danielle Green. If you perform bulk edit and select move then you will get an option to keep or change the parent issue. Check the screenshot below. It will be a bit challenging to do it for thousands of issues. May be break it up in batches from issue navigator. Ravi. Danielle Green. Rising Star. Jul 29, 2021.

Look to the three dots to the upper-right of the issue view - there is a "move" option in there that takes you to a screen with "change project" and "change parent" options. Note that the "change parent" will only appear if the issue is a sub-task, it's not for changing the Epic links. Like • 5 people like this. Stephanie Duprea Oct 19, 2020.
If your Task and Sub-Task have different workflows, this is going to fail. The only way that you can use automation to convert one issue type to another is if they share the same workflow. Otherwise, this would be a "Move" operation which is only possible through a manual function on the Jira UI. Like. Gavin.
